The Individual Oral
A 15-minute IB Assessment
10-minute, uninterrupted presentation from the student
Connects a global issue with a literary text and a non-literary body of work
Students can use a 10-bullet (max) outline and a 40-line extract (max) from each piece/body of work
Be sure to thread the global issue throughout your oral presentation.
Talk specifically about authorial/creator choices and their intended impacts on audience, particularly when it comes to their understanding or attitudes toward the global issue.
5-minute Q&A with the teacher
The Q&A is intended to help you fill any gaps in your discussion. It can help improve your score. Your teacher is on your side and is trying to get you to score as highly as possible.
Worth Noting About Timing . . .
If you stall out after 7 minutes of presenting, we will move into the Q&A. We will communicate for the full 15 minutes that are allotted for this assessment.
If you speak for more than 10 minutes, I will interrupt you at about 10:45.
If you have either of the timing issues listed in the previous two bullet points, you will be docked points per the IB IO Rubric. Simply put, practice. Keep an eye on the clock. Do your best to end at 10:00 on the button.
